An epic in four acts. 42 Characters. Interviews with those who knew their laugh, their handshake, the sound of their voice. Thousands of photographs, films, artifacts. Real airplanes recreating visceral moments of joy and terror. The pilots tell their story better than anyone—all their heartache, courage, fear, hilarity, flirtations, boredom, and exhilaration. The places—many little changed in 100 years—fairly echo with the roar of rotary engines.
Our production started in April 2016 filming the re-dedication of the Lafayette Escadrille and Flying Corps Memorial outside Paris. We’ve shot almost all our interviews, and are ready to return to France to film the locations they flew, fought, lived and died.
